Dipstick is a little tools that opens a tiny window in which you can drag and drop an URL from MSIE or Netscape on it and it pings the host. Click on it and it gives you a window with the results. One way to use this is when you're presented with multiple mirrors to download a file and you're not sure what to select, simply drag the URLs on it and look at the results, select the fastest one.
